The Friendship Band was formed in the mid seventies, at the height of what is known as ‘the troubles’ in Northern Ireland. The aim of the band was to bring together a group of musicians who could perform for both sides of the community, as well as North and South of the border. The full band is made up of 30 or more players from various brass and drums bands throughout both Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland.
