We applied a rigorous rating and scoring system called The Hooley Score, using bands’ YouTube, Facebook and Twitter audiences to rank their popularity.

The methodology

How was the Hooley Score calculated?

For more than 50 years, Q Scores have been an industry standard for quantifying the star power of celebrities across music, film and media.

Hooley adapted those ranking factors for the Irish wedding-band scene.

According to RTÉ, Ireland had approximately 1,000 wedding bands. The Hooley Score was designed to make finding one easier and quicker.

The Hooley Score measured how popular wedding bands were across YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, then ranked them accordingly.

First came the national top 10, followed by the highest-ranking bands in Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster.

YouTube, Facebook and Twitter

The 2026 Hooley Score used three public measures of each band’s reach and audience engagement.

Hooley Score and YouTube

YouTube offered an immediate way to see and hear a band before arranging to attend a live performance. A strong channel, good-quality videos and an active audience all helped couples judge whether a band might suit their wedding.

The Hooley Score recorded the number of YouTube subscribers a wedding band had and assigned a value to it. Bands with a consistent video presence were more likely to attract subscriptions and rank strongly.

Hooley Score and Facebook

Facebook pages gave bands somewhere to share recent photos, videos, news and updates. Fans could like, comment on and share those posts, increasing a band’s public reach.

The total following and regular interaction provided a simple indicator of popularity. An active page also suggested that a band was engaged, visible and conscious of its relationship with customers.

Hooley Score and Twitter

Twitter offered another view of a band’s public reputation and personality. Bands could share media and updates, while customers could discuss their experiences publicly.

A substantial, engaged following suggested that a band was doing something right. The Hooley Score included that audience in its overall calculation.

Final tips

Talk, go see and book

The Hooley Score was an excellent place to begin, but a ranking could never replace speaking with a band and seeing them perform live.

Speak directly with the band about professionalism, pricing, timings, music requirements and any extras such as drinks-reception music or a DJ.

Go see

Recordings are a useful starting point, but a live performance reveals the band’s sound, set list, stage presence and ability to entertain a room.

Book

Book well in advance and get written confirmation covering performance times, fees, payment terms, additional services and the cancellation policy.
