The Cufflinks Band from Fintown have been delighting Donegal folk for very nearly 50 years! The Molloy family have remained the backbone of this highly respected band in a variety of line-ups over the years and the great stalwart Patrick senior, who was the founding “Cufflink,” still graces the stage with his great lead guitar playing.
If you ask the Molloys how they have kept going throughout the generations, they will tell you that their focus has always been on family and community. They have been a staple at a multitude of weddings and functions, as master enablers when the craic and dancing needed to be sparked off. They are a household name in Donegal, adding to and enhancing those critical and memorable days we all share with our nearest and dearest.
With such a background, The Cufflinks were delighted to help when approached by Breda and James Bonner to assist in raising funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. The couple had tragically lost their infant daughter Cara-Rose while living in Calgary, Canada and the Kevin Bell Trust provided wonderful support, which helped them through the traumatic experience. The couple have always insisted that they would like to give something back in recognition of this crucial service.
Band leader Paddy Molloy immediately thought that a tribute recording could be made, proceeds from which could entirely go to the Trust. “Yeah, we chatted about it and settled on George Ezra’s “Shotgun” as it was proving very popular at our gigs. Brian Kerrigan, our keyboard player owns the highly regarded Harmony Studios, Letterkenny and he worked his magic and here we are, ready to roll.”
And indeed, it is a great recording, full of life and vitality. A worthy tribute to little Cara-Rose, whose parents referred to her poignantly as “Our Sleeping Angel,” so very well looked after by the Kevin Bell Trust.
The Cufflinks are also helping and playing at a Fundraising Dance in memory of Cara-Rose, to be held in the Villa Rose hotel on Friday 4th of October. Sure to be a great night, it will also feature the excellent talents of David James, Brian Mullen and Dawn Heatherington. Admission 10 euro. Proceeds again to the Kevin Bell Trust. Watch press for further details.
The Cufflinks tribute single “Shotgun” is available from many shops throughout Donegal and on the Cufflinks page on Facebook. All proceeds to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Please support this worthy cause.
